“Real-Time Local GNSS Continuously Operating Reference Station (CORS) Networks and Their Importance for Municipal Applications” is the theme of the inaugural “1st Positioning and Satellite Navigation Summit 2015”, organised by the Pirireis Association. It will be held at Titanic Business Kartal Hotel on 20 March 2015 with the support of the General Directorate of Land Registry and Cadastre, the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye, the Association of Licensed Surveying and Cadastre Engineers and Offices, and the Surveying Engineers Businesspeople’s Association.
“1st Positioning and Satellite Navigation Summit 2015” brings together local government representatives, public- and private-sector professionals, academics, the construction, energy, communications, space and satellite sectors, GPS/GNSS distributors and developers of location-based applications. It creates a discussion platform to assess developments in positioning and satellite navigation, examine the installation of permanent GNSS reference stations and CORS networks in Türkiye and worldwide, develop ideas for cities where real-time local CORS networks are being used or planned, and find solutions to regulatory issues.
The summit aims to raise awareness of the benefits of local GNSS CORS networks for municipal services, e-government, e-municipality and personal mobile applications. It will explain how these systems support sustainable delivery of core municipal responsibilities, including geographic information systems (GIS), urban information systems, spatial planning, infrastructure and transport, thereby informing professional and technical practitioners. Topics will include “Current Status of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS)”, “The Future and Modernisation of GNSS”, “National and Local CORS Networks”, “The Importance of CORS Networks for Municipal Services”, “Local CORS Networks for Geographic and Urban Information Systems”, “Spatial Information”, “Integration of CORS Systems”, “Developing Regulations for CORS Systems”, “Advances in RTK Positioning”, “New Positioning Techniques — Precise Point Positioning (PPP)” and “Indoor Positioning Systems”.
The summit will bring together municipal representatives from all 81 provinces, public- and private-sector professionals, executives from the construction, energy, communications, space and satellite sectors, GPS/GNSS distributors and practitioners in different fields. It will comprise two sessions over one day, with presentations by academics and managers of municipalities that establish and operate local CORS networks in Türkiye.
