The “WORLD CADASTRE SUMMIT” takes place in Istanbul on 20–24 April 2015…

For the first time, specialists and managers from countries’ surveying, cadastre and geographic information technology sectors are coming together at Istanbul’s Haliç Congress Centre on 20–24 April 2015 under the theme “Let’s Cadastre Our World”. Hosted by Türkiye, the event is organised by the General Directorate of Land Registry and Cadastre under the auspices of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanisation.

The event aims to develop new solutions for recording land for the 75% of the world’s population that still lacks land rights and access to land information, and to discuss new ideas for improving countries’ land administration policies and systems.

Land is the foundation of life: for individuals and countries, it provides a basis for existence, security for the future and a cornerstone of the economy. Societies have regarded land not merely as an inheritance, but as a trust to be passed on to future generations. For a safer and more secure future, land ownership rights must therefore be guaranteed and land used sustainably. Enabling all of this is the fundamental task of cadastre.

“Cadastre” is a universal concept, defined as the official mapping and systematic recording of the location, area, boundaries and value of all types of land and property. Although cadastre forms the foundation of land administration today, it is not yet fully understood or implemented by every country or individual. Land, on which life and the economy depend, and all information relating to it must be accessible and managed more effectively. These are the tasks of surveying, cadastre and land registration.

There is a clear need for modern, dynamic surveying and cadastral infrastructures integrated with information technology and of universal value. Türkiye is therefore hosting the “World Cadastre Summit, Conference and Exhibition” to address every aspect of cadastre worldwide and to develop technical and legal principles of land administration on a global scale.

The World Cadastre Summit brings nearly 3,000 participants from 70 countries together in Istanbul to discuss the latest developments and problems on a scientific platform. A total of 150 scientific papers will be presented in 30 technical sessions. Three special exhibitions will also be open to participants: the Surveying and Land Registry Archive from the Ottoman Era to the Present; Surveyors and Cadastral Personnel Martyred at Çanakkale; and the Surveying and Cadastre Information Technologies “Sectors Meet” Exhibition. A special World Cadastre Summit round-table meeting will bring together 50 official delegations, with ministerial representation from 30 countries. The summit will issue a global call through the “Istanbul Cadastre Declaration”. The event programme has been announced, and full details are available at http://wcadastre.org the website.

All professional groups and colleagues are invited to the event at Istanbul’s Haliç Congress Centre on 20–24 April 2015. We would be honoured to welcome you.
